Training Program

Magnum Retrievers generally accepts dogs between six months and two years of age. Dogs over the age of two require an evaluation to determine trainability. A four-month minimum is our standard training program with additional training conducted on a month-by-month basis. Retrievers in our program are taught obedience, force retrieve, and are collar conditioned. Emphasis is placed on steadiness and marking singles, doubles, and triples at various distances. Diversion birds and walk-ups are also taught during this time. Beginning handling is started with pile work and casting drills. Additional training will be necessary for clients wanting a more advanced retriever. The length of time varies with each individual dog in relation to what level the owner wants his retriever. Magnum Retrievers works one on one with clients to make the handling transition as smooth as possible. We want our clients to attend as many training sessions as needed for them to be comfortable and confident in handling their retriever.
